“In 2018, Polar Star Space conducted a joint project with several partners, including Hokkaido University, in which it successfully developed a technology to detect disease-affected trees. The project used machine learning to analyze detailed spectrum data from a vast oil palm plantation in Malaysia, measuring about one-fifth the area of Tokyo. A similar project was undertaken at a banana plantation in the Philippines. At the banana plantation, farmers used to have to walk around the banana plants looking for signs of new Panama disease. If affected plants can be quickly identified using measured data, it would go a long way in preventing the spread of the disease.”

＜Outline of research and development＞Utilize remote sensing technology to realize automatic service for disease detection of crops. The damage caused by the new Panama disease is serious overseas, and there is a strong need for disease diagnosis information for each crop in Japan as well. 2018/07/09 : The investment has been decided as the first project of the “North Pacific SDGs Promotion Fund” established by the North Pacific Bank in May 2018
The “North Sea SDGs Promotion Fund” targets small and medium-sized enterprises in Hokkaido that meet the concept of SDGs (= Sustainable Development Goals), solves the problems faced by regional enterprises through the provision of funds, revitalizes the regional economy and Hokkaido. It is a fund that aims to contribute to the sustainable development.
Ultra-high-precision spectral data analysis by Polar Star Space makes it possible to quickly find various information such as plant growth status, thermal environment on the ground, soil and crop properties, and optimal early detection of crop lesions and fertilization.
